Employment

Training : we recognise the importance of training and development in helping employees to maximise their personal potential whilst contributing to the Bakery’s success. We have recently appointed a Training Manager to enable us to make more rapid progress in the area. We are keen to encourage all learning and development and are active in a whole range of initiatives from basic literacy and numeracy skills to NVQ’s, degrees and professional qualifications.

Equal opportunity : we aim to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on grounds of race, religion, sex, marital status or disability, or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be justifiable. Jackson's run English courses for employees from abroad, who use English as their second language. As well as helping the individual, there are also important health & safety and food safety benefits.

Disabilty at work : full and fair consideration is given to the recruitment, training, career development and promotion of disabled persons bearing in mind the aptitude and ability of the individual concerned. Should an employee become disabled while employed by the group he/she will continue wherever possible to be employed in the same job. If this action is not practical or possible then every effort will be made to find suitable alternative employment.

Social : there is an active Recreation Club which organises sports and social activities generating a high level of involvement by staff in all divisions, often resulting in substantial charitable fundraising. The group also sponsors regular get-togethers of long serving and retired former employees.
