Joel is currently attending Hull University working towards a Business and Logistics degree. As part of the course, he took up a one year student placement at the Bakery, during which time he has worked on projects in Engineering and Health and Safety, as well as working in Sales/Order Processing and latterly, Planning..
Although he enjoyed his time in all of the departments, he shows particular excitement when speaking about his experiences in Planning, which he considered to be the "hub of the business". He described the role as being "very fast paced and complex which allowed interaction with customers and other internal departments as well as affording the opportunity to develop and use problem solving skills".
Following his return to university in October, Joel is returning part time to the bakery and has been offered a purchasing role on a permanent basis when he completes his degree in May 2012.
When asked about his long term aspirations, Joel would ideally like to hold a management position.
Yasir left Pakistan to attend Hull University. Whilst working towards an MSC .Net Distribution System Development degree course during 2006/7, he joined the Bakery as a "casual worker" employed through an agency. In 2008 Yasir secured a permanent position as a Hygiene operative and eventually was given responsibility for training other Hygiene operatives.
In 2010, he was promoted to the role of Bakery Trainer and spent a period of time in the operational departments learning a variety of skills. He is currently delivering general "on the job" training to operatives and supervisors alike.
Also due to his "IT" based background, Yasir has more recently extended his role to include training people in the basics of Microsoft Office; ie. Excel, Outlook and Word.
Yasir's long term aspiration is to develop into a managerial position.
Lisa originally joined the Jacksons Group as a Retail YTS in 1988 and upon completion of the scheme, joined the Bakery as an operative in the Morning Goods plant, where she worked for 11 years.
She then left the Company to work abroad and upon her return in 2008, rejoined the Bakery as an operative at the Trinity Street site. She was soon promoted to Chargehand and in 2009 moved into the newly created position of Staff Service Technician which gave her responsibility for laundry, PPE and staff canteen.
As part of her development within this role, Lisa has completed the NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety and has extended the role to include carrying out risk assessments, powered respiratory testing and audiometry testing.
Lisa explained that she really enjoys the job that she is doing as it's so varied and would ideally like to develop the role even further in the future. She is also a member of the Bakery Information and Consultation Committee and the Junior Forum.
